Life becomes a whole lot better when you take it one day at a time. And today is the first day of the rest of your life. It’s day 1.
Here’s the truth.
Reminding yourself of this is important.
Being effective in this world starts with an organized mind. And you can effectively organize your mind around today. That’s about it.
Tomorrow, next week, next year, into infinity get progressively pixelated. The clarity goes away and chaos takes its place.
Reality is, your mind isn’t designed to think beyond today.
That’s why we sleep everyday, and not every 7 days. We reset and start fresh again tomorrow. Let that sink in.
When you use your mind for what it was designed for, life becomes smooth sailing. You’re playing by the rules and limitations given. When you stretch your mind too far, it produces irritation, stress and anxiety — aka chaos and disorder.
Think about life in 10 years right now. Notice a feeling of anxiety? That’s your CPU getting jammed up. Think about “eternity.” Notice a feeling a chaos and confusion? That’s your CPU REALLY getting jammed up.
The fundamental challenge is keeping your mind focused on today. It’s sexy and tempting to think off into the future. Plus, we do this all the time unknowingly.
Pay attention to how often you ruminate into the future.
I’ll bet you do it all the time.
On your worst days, I’ll bet you’re trapped in this type of thinking… and you don’t even know it.
Start taking charge of this. Notice when you’re ruminating into ‘future think’ and calmly and politely bring your thinking back to today.
The truth is now. The truth is today.
Today is the first day of your life. You’ve heard that before. It’s generic and easy to overlook. But take a moment and let it sink in. Today really IS the first day of your life.
Remember the first day of school when you were a kid? Remember the feeling of excitement?
Day 1’s are exciting.
The good news? Everyday is day 1.
